The main aim of the Hollandsche Schouwburg (Dutch
Theatre) is to keep alive the history of this building and its
monument. We wish in particular to remember what happened here
during the Second World War, in the years 1940 to 1945. Since the
interior of the Theatre was re-organized in 1993, the Hollandsche
Schouwburg has been seen as a place of education as well as a
memorial. For survivors of the Second World War and their families
the Hollandsche Schouwburg plays an important part in the ongoing
process of coming to terms with the unspeakable events of the war.
The permanent
exhibition and the teaching programs bring the past into the
present and show how relevant it is for young people today.
